The International Soil Reference and Information Centre (ISRIC) is pleased to announce that it has joined the Regional Hub for Fertilizer and Soil Health for West Africa and the Sahel (the Hub) as a consortium member.
ISRIC has previously supported the Hub’s mission and activities as a knowledge partner. In its new role as a consortium member, ISRIC will deepen its contribution by applying its technical expertise in soil data, digital soil mapping, and soil information systems to ensure high-quality soil information support improved agriculture, sustainability, and climate resilience across West Africa and the Sahel.
The Hub is a collaborative initiative that brings together leading research and development partners and the private sector to enhance soil health and agricultural productivity across the region. It is hosted by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and is supported by the World Bank (through AICCRA - Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa) and OCP Africa. Consortium members include the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), OCP Africa, the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI), and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
“We are honoured to be part of this initiative and look forward to working closely with the consortium members to achieve the Hub’s goals. Our focus will be to develop soil information and soil information systems to help improve soil management in the West African region, aligning closely with the African Union Soil Initiative for Africa,” said Rik van den Bosch, ISRIC Director.
