Since 1966, ISRIC is dedicated to serve the international community with information about the world’s soil resources to support science and education, and to help addressing major global issues. The organisation has evolved from the International Soil Museum, located in Utrecht, to a global soil reference and information centre, now housed on Wageningen campus. Since 1989, it is accredited as World Data Centre for Soils (WDC-Soils) by the International Council for Science (ICSU).
On 8 September 2016, ISRIC celebrated its 50th anniversary with an informal get-together with current and former colleagues, and friends of ISRIC. During the event em. prof. dr. JA (Seppe) Deckers and dr. RA (Bob) MacMillan have been appointed as Honorary Fellows. In their speeches, former director David Dent, Johan Bouma, and current director Rik van den Bosch addressed past, present and future aspects of ISRIC. During the event em. prof. dr.
