Giulio Genova

Giulio Genova is a PhD student at the University of Bozen/Bolzano in collaboration with Eurac research. His research interests include modelling the spatial distribution of soil properties, the role of heavy metals in soil functioning, and water use efficiency in agriculture. He uses a data science approach to answer scientific questions. He strongly believes in open source software and open data and focuses on code efficiency and parallel computation in High Performance Computing. He helps organizing an R meetup group in Bolzano, Italy, and develops web applications. At ISRIC he will be a Guest Researcher from September 2020 until February 2021 and will be supervised by Laura Poggio. He will work on assessing the applicability of convolutional neural networks for SoilGrids. Giulio holds a BSc In Environmental Sciences and a MSc in Forestry. Giulio speaks English, Italian and a little bit of Portuguese.
